Life Sciences, 234 Botley Road

Life Sciences, 234 Botley Road

A landscape inspired by Oxford’s Port Meadow wildlife reserve

Location Oxford, UK

The proposals at 234 Botley Road, Oxford will create high quality commercial laboratory and office spaces to support the Oxford life sciences industry, providing the infrastructure to attract world class employment opportunities.

We saw an opportunity to heal a much-degraded riparian landscape and re-introduce water and wetland ecology to the site. Working with an innovative architectural solution by Foster and Partners to raise the building en piloti our design allowed the flood plain and landscape to flow under the building and connect into the wider floodplain.

A public space with willow coppice, calming water features and wetland planting is activated with café spaces and direct public transport links into Oxford.
